                                        Dunedin Touch-A-Truck

                                              27 April 2013

Once again the  Dunedin Touch-A-Truck event was a rousing success due to our FSO-PA Karen Montembeault who coordinated the event and set up. The site assigned to 11-10 initially  didn't look very promising but with some imagination it evolved into one of the best locations. It was situated under a few large trees which provided plenty of shade during the affair. Karen was  assisted by the following crew Rob Bonnem, Ed Burgess, Buddy Casale , Dick Dubois, Joan Gutek, Tim Harrington, Linda Latherow, Tom Loughlin, Roger Montembeault, Walter Murray, Nick Nelson, Harvey Prior, Guy Warner.

The public was very engaged with the displays of navigational literature and many questions were answered regarding safe boating and vessel inspections.  The Tattoo table was busy all afternoon with the children and our own Tattoo artists Joan Gutek, Tom Loughlin , Linda Latherrow and Tim Harrington. The other highlight was the Trash Guessing game of how long certain items remained in the waterways spanning 3 weeks to 600 years. The children enjoyed the guessing game but many of the parents were equally amazed at how long some items lasted in our waterways.

Dick Dubois' vessel Sea La Vie was on display along with many types of  life jackets. Unfortunately Coast Guard Station Sand Key couldn't provide a crew or vessel due to sequester  which was a disappointment as many people made inquiries. It was a busy day but very rewarding to find the public so engaged in boating safety. There were a number of inquiries about our ABS course & BS&S course.

To Karen and her crew..
