| Harvey joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in
1986 and spent his first nine years as a member of the
Tarpon Springs and Palm Harbor flotillas. He was an
active member, serving as a crew member, coxswain, and
watchstander, and holding multiple flotilla staff
offices including Publications, Aids to Navigation (now
called Navigation Systems) and Flotilla Vice Commander.
He served regularly as a watchstander for the Coast
Guard at Station Sand Key. (His dedication to attending
flotilla events was evident the year that he dropped by
the annual holiday party just long enough to announce
“It’s a Girl!” before returning to the hospital.)
The demands of family life led him to take a break from
membership for several years, but he returned to active
membership and joined Flotilla 11-10 in 2011. |
