Auxiliary Shipmate-Leroy Wolff
After receiving his BS degree in Aeronautical Engineering he worked for 30 years for North American Aviation in Columbus Ohio and California.
He spent 10 of those years at Edwards Air Force base working on the B-70 aircraft and then the B-1 bombers. Several years were also spent in Palmdale California assisting in the building of airplanes.
Lee owned 1/6 of a Comanche 250 airplane and made several trips to Michigan and Florida during his working career.
Lee joined the Coast Guard Auxiliary in April of 1987. In his over 25 years in the Auxiliary he was a Flotilla Commander four times and Flotilla Vice Commander three times. He also held various flotilla staff positions for 25 terms, the most of any active Dunedin flotilla member. Lee also served three terms on the Division staff.
He received 29 Auxiliary Awards over the years.
He served as a watchstander at Station Sand Key for many years, and he always felt that the members of Station Sand Key were a part of his family.
Lee said that the biggest thing he currently misses is getting together with the members of Station Sand Key. For over 15 years Lee and his wife Joyce hosted an annual Christmas party for all of the Station Sand Key current and past members. The Christmas parties were always held on the same night as the Indian Rocks Beach Boat Parade which went right past Lee and Joyce’s home. Their largest party had over 75 people in attendance. Many past Station Sand Key members would return for the Christmas party.
For many years Lee was the “Go To” guy for the Dunedin Flotilla and he held the flotilla together through some difficult years. All of the Dunedin members appreciate Lee contributions and dedication which has given them their current opportunities.
